Lower the bar

A perfect thank-you note that never gets sent is worse than a five-word note that goes out within two weeks. Aim for short and sincere, not elaborate.

Make it a ritual

Set aside 30 minutes the weekend after the party. Spread out the notes, the gift list, and a snack. Doing them in one sitting beats stretching it over a month.

Let the kid contribute

Even a three-year-old can sign their name or color a small drawing on the card. Older kids can dictate a sentence about the gift. The note doesn't have to be all in your handwriting.

Use a template — but personalize one line

A repeatable opener and closer plus one specific line about the gift is plenty. "Thank you so much for the [thing] — [Name] has been [doing something with it] every day."

Send digitally if you have to

A quick text or photo of the kid using the gift counts. Etiquette has caught up; what matters is that the gift-giver hears back.
